Vincent S. Grasso
Vincent S. Grasso, 95, of Rome, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Canastota, NY, on July 14, 1921, son of the late Antonio and Maria Stagnetti Grasso. Vinnie and his family moved to Rome where he graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1939. During World War II, Vinnie joined the Marine Corps, serving as a Master Sergeant, in the Pacific Theater. In 1949, he married Lena Campola, of Utica, NY, and had two children: Marie and her husband Walter Carlucci, of Challenge, CA, and Anthony (Tony) Grasso of Phoenix, AZ. Lena passed away in 1979 and after her death Vinnie married Dorothy Cassevah on October 16, 1981, his beloved wife of thirty-six years.
At the end of World War II, Vinnie worked for a brief time for Revere Copper and Brass. He ended his working career after forty years as a production supervisor for Varflex Corporation. Vinnie loved to golf and enjoyed playing at the black jack tables at Turning Stone Casino. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather and he will be sincerely missed by his family and by all that knew him.
In addition to his wife Dorothy and his two children, Vinnie is survived by his cherished grandchildren: Cari Tucker of Brentwood, CA, Brian Mastracco, of Los Angeles, CA, Michael Grasso, of Geneseo, NY, and Timothy Grasso, of Falls Church, VA. In addition, Vinnie had five great grandchildren who brought him great joy and happiness. Also surviving are a beloved brother, Pep Grasso, of Rome, a special daughter-in-law, Sharon Grasso, VA, his sister-in-law, Phylis Dye, of Rome, step-son, Garry Cassevah, of Roscoe, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters: Lena Coniglio, Virginia Paone, America Cavallaro, and Pauline Polverenti.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff of Rome Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care that they gave to Vinnie.
