Obituary of Jeffrey D. Smith

Jeffrey D. Smith Jeffrey D. Smith, 45, of Deerfield, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016, unexpectedly due to injuries from a car accident. Jeff was born in Rome, NY, on May 3, 1971 son of James (Jim) and Kathleen (Kathy) Pelano Smith. Raised in Rome, Jeff graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1989. He went on to receive an Associates Degree from Herkimer County Community College in 1993 and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Polytechnic Institute in 2000. Jeff married Leslie McCutcheon on September 21, 1996 in St. Mary's Church, New York Mills. They were later divorced in 2012. A son, Derek Charles, was born to them on May 1, 2002. He loved spending time with his pride and joy, Derek, whom he loved with all his heart. Jeff was employed as a supervisor at Revere Copper Products. He was an avid Yankee, Dallas Cowboys and Syracuse Orange fan and a devoted fan of the Dave Matthews Band. He loved working on his Camaro, playing softball, golf and going hunting and fishing with his dad (who was his best friend) and fishing with his son (whom he called "Bubby"). Surviving besides his parents, Jim and Kathy Smith, Rome, are a son, Derek Smith and Jeff's ex-wife, Leslie Marangi, New Hartford, with whom he maintained a strong and loving relationship, a sister and brother-in-law, Karie-Ann and David Raynault, Winter Springs, FL, a brother, Jeremy Smith and his fiancée, Jessica Fonseca, Newport Beach, CA, whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by many extended family members including his Godfather, Uncle Stephen and Aunt Mary Stone, Schenectady, NY, Godmother Carol (Frank) Putruele, Utica, NY, his Uncle Joseph (Ronda) Guarascio, Bradenton, FL, Great- Aunt Caroline Baptiste, Rome, NY and very many dearly loved friends who will miss him tremendously. He was predeceased by many extended family members. His family would like to thank his many friends for their outpouring of love, sympathy and support. Jeff's crazy sense of humor, his beautiful smile and generous soul will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Private burial will be in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J.
