Edward L. Smith III Edward L. Smith III, 73, of Rome passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at home. He was born in Rome, NY, on August 2, 1942 son of the late Edward L. and Thelma Plato Smith, Jr. Ed attended Rome City Schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. Ed was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Upstate New York Carpenter's Union, VFW Rome Post #2246, Lee American Legion, Rome Elks Club and past member of HP Smith #24 American Legion. Surviving are a son, Edward L. Smith, IV and Sherry Connelly, Rome, two step-sons; Kurt Gensler, AR, Mark Gensler, Rome, a step-daughter, Alice Gensler, Buffalo, NY, grandchildren; Samantha Smith, Lily Smith and several step-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Sue Smith, a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ed Coluccio all of Rome and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Claire L. Torkelson. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W.
