I remember Alex Conti all too well. He coached junior varsity basketball at St. Aloysius Academy, where I attended high school. He also coached the 'ragtag' baseball team of SAA. I played basketball on the JV team when A. Conti was coach. We did not get much instruction in the real fundamentals of the game, and were far outmatched when we played against the Rome Free Academy team. I played on the SAA baseball team for 3 years, and would have played a fourth year, except Mr. Conti threw me off the team for saying a "bad word." I refused to run laps around the baseball field at Rome State School, where we practiced. That was my junior year at SAA. Mr. Conti was a bit non-talkative, and having a conversation with him was not easy. Yes, I remember Alex Conti, and not all the memories of him are pleasant.
