Joseph N. Aquino Joseph N. Aquino, 92, of Rome, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was born in Rome, NY, on August 26, 1924, son of the late Nicola and Theresa Rania Aquino. Joe graduated from Rome Free Academy and Utica College. He served honorably with the U.S. Army Air Corp., as an Air-Ground Operator serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon; Asia-Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars; Victory Medal; Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Overseas Bars. On July 23, 1956, Joe married Sue Messineo in St. John the Baptist Church. She passed away, February 24, 2014. Joe retired from Griffiss Air Force Base as a Program Analyst. His tenure as a government employee allowed him to work at various Air Force Bases across the United States. Joe was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. As a member of the former Beaver Brook Country Club, Joe made three different holes in one! He was also a member of Teugega Country Club and the Toccalana Club. Surviving are a sister, Lena Marcelletta, Rome, a niece, Lorayne Calicchia, Rome, two nephews, James Marcelletta, Jr., Rome, Daniel Vaccaro, Chula Vista, CA, and several other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Jennie McGee, Rome, a brother-in-law, Albert Giardino, Rome, and a special caregiver, Terrie Johnson, Rome. He was predeceased by his wife, Sue, a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Daniel Vaccaro, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Theresa and Felix Stevens, Marie Davies, Josephine Giardino, and James Marcelletta, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., on Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, P.O.
