Jennie Clapps Jennie Clapps, 93, of Rome, passed away peacefuly at home on Sunday, October 30, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rome, NY on July 21, 1923 the daughter of the late Vito and Maria Josephine (Carissimo)Vaccaro. Jennie was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She attended Rome Schools and began working at General Cable during WWII. Jennie married the love of her life, Maurice Clapps, at St. John the Baptist Church, on April 12, 1947. They were married twenty-eight years before Maurie passed away on May 10, 1975. Jennie became a Therapy Aide, working with disabled children at the Rome State School in 1963. After 25 years of service, she retired from what is now the Rome Developmental Center. The memory of Jennie's bright smile and joyous laughter will be cherished by all who knew her. Jennie will be remembered for her love of life and her love and devotion to her family. Jennie is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ronald and Terri Clapps, Rome, her daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Paul Genovese, Rome, daughter-in-law Tessi Clapps, Whitesboro. Jennie leaves her beloved grandchildren Desiree Genovese, Eric Genovese, Brandon Genovese, Travis Genovese, Travis Clapps, Justine Clapps, Derricka Boggess, Ian Clapps, Lisa Ferris, Kim Barnes, Alanna Bone, Ronald Clapps, Dustin Clapps, Todd Seamans, Casey Seamans, Mckenzie Jones and Jennie was blessed with 24 great grandchildren. She also leaves several beloved neices and nephews in Canastota and California. Jennie was predeceased by her husband, her son Louis and her three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Jean Vaccaro, Leonard and Anna Vaccaro, John and Florence Vacarro and a brother-in-law Louis W. Clapps. The family would like to express a most sincere thank you to the loving staff at the Rome Home on North Washington Street, for the attentive care given Jennie during her stay there. Their loving care will never be forgotten. A special thank you to Dr. Deepak Busch of the Tri-County Medical Mobile Care Team for his many home visits. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
